We all need money, whether, rich, middle class, or poor, male or female, young or old, black, white, Hispanic Asian… Times have changed since we were able to buy a nice home, three bedrooms, living room… for $30,000. It’s a lot harder for most families to live comfortably (based on western standards any way) with one income. So many mothers are working now.

Is it harder to raise “good” families if mom is working? What concerns do we have when mom is the only one working because she’s a single parent? When both parents are working should the father always be earning more than the mother?

There are quite a few factors to consider as we look into this. Our own biases about out-of-wedlock pregnancies, traditional ideas about dad/mom roles and more. Let’s think through this together and consider the possible implications for a society where moms are beginning to become the primary breadwinners. I’ll address this on Tuesday.
